We always include HiStory in our DCFM cooking class. What is today’s HiStory?

그것은 바로 ‘아보카도’입니다.
It is avocado

Avocado 를 불어로 아보카 (avocat) 라고 하지요. 저희는 오늘 두 가지 아보카를 여러분에게 소개하려고 합니다.
Avocado in French is avocat. I would like to look at two kinds of avocado with you today.

첫째는 여러분이 잘 아시는 과일 아보카입니다. 비타민과 미네랄이 풍부한 매력적인 과일이지요.
Firstly, it is the avocado that you all know as a fruit. It is a very appealing fruit full of vitamins and minerals.

둘째 아보카는 과일이 아닙니다. 제가 지금 이 특별한 아보카를 소개드리고자 합니다.
Secondly, an avocado is not a fruit. I would like to present to you a special kind of avocado.

저는 과일 아보카를 좋아합니다. 하지만 둘째 아보카를 휠씬 더 좋아합니다.
I like avocado as a fruit. But I like even more this second kind of avocado.

(저는) 과일 아보카가 없이는 살 수 있지만, 둘째 아보카가 없이는 살 수 없습니다.
I can live without the first kind of avocado, but I cannot live without this second kind of avocado.

왜냐하면 제가 큰 죄를 지었기 때문입니다.
This is because I have committed a great sin.

물론 제가 캐나다 법이나 한국 법을 어긴 것은 아닙니다. 그러나 저는 하나님의 법을 어겼고 하나님 앞에서 죄인입니다.
This doesn’t mean that I’ve broken a Canadian law or a Korean law. But I have broken God’s command and I am a sinner in front of Him.

로마서 3:23을 보니 이렇게 기록되어 있습니다. “모든 사람이 죄를 범하였으매 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하더니”
It is recorded in Romans 6:23: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

저는 과거에 죄의식, 두려움, 외로움, 인생의 무의미, 이런 어둠으로부터 벗어나지 못했습니다. 그런데 알고 보니 이 모든 문제들의 뿌리는 저의 죄였습니다.
In the past, I was unable to overcome my sins, my fears, my loneliness, the emptiness of my life, and many other darkness. But I then realized that the root of all my problems was my sins.

감사하게도 크리스천 친구들이 제게 둘째 아보카를 소개해 주었습니다. 불어로 아보카는 변호사라는 뜻도 있지요.
Fortunately, my Christian friends introduced me to the second kind of avocado. In French, avocat also means lawyer or advocate.

성경은 예수 그리스도가 우리의 변호사라고 말씀합니다.
The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is our advocate.

“누가 죄를 짓더라도, 아버지 앞에서 변호해 주시는 분이 우리에게 계시는데, 곧 의로우신 예수 그리스도이십니다.” (요한1서 2:1b, 새번역)
“And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1John 2:1b, NASB)

예수 그리스도는 우리를 사랑하십니다. 범죄한 우리를 살리기 위해 그분이 우리의 죄값을 대신 담당하셨습니다. 그리고 우리의 변호사가 되어 주십니다. 예수님이 변호해 주시면 그가 어떤 죄인일지라도 하나님은 그를 용서하십니다.
Jesus Christ loves us. To save us from the sins we’ve committed, He took on our sins. And he became our advocate. Jesus defends us on our behalf, and whatever sins we may have committed, God surely forgives us.

앞으로 아보카를 드실 때마다 여러분의 변호사이신 예수 그리스도를 생각하시기 바랍니다.
Whenever you eat an avocado, I hope you will remember Jesus Christ who is our advocate.

우리를 변호하기 위해 자신의 생명을 내어 놓으신, 우리의 영원한 아보카를 기억하시기 바랍니다. 감사합니다.
I hope you will remember our eternal advocate who laid down his own life in order to defend us. Thank you.
